"I always sit there and wonder, talk to my friends about it to, like 'oh, I'm kind of jealous you get to go and do four years of college, it's something I'm going to miss out on,'" Karam said. "And they're like 'yeah, but no one else here gets to drive a race car at 230 mph,'" Karam said.
Karam also doesn't forget the long road it took to get where he is.
GOOD DAY GONE BAD: Brad Keselowski was in the top five when he made contact with Brett Moffitt under green with just more than 30 laps left.
The incident brought out a caution and required Keselowski to spend extended time on pit road.
Interstate 476 (I-476) is a 132.1-mile (212.59 km) auxiliary Interstate Highway in the U. state of Pennsylvania designated between Interstate 95 near Chester and Interstate 81 near Scranton, serving as the primary north–south Interstate corridor through eastern Pennsylvania.
It consists of both the 20-mile (32.19 km) Mid-County Expressway, locally referred to as the "Blue Route" (although no signs exist with that designation), through the suburban Philadelphia-area counties of Delaware and Montgomery, and the 110.6-mile (177.99 km) Northeast Extension of the Pennsylvania Turnpike connecting the Philadelphia metropolitan area with the Lehigh Valley, the Poconos, and the Wyoming Valley.
Karam travels all around the country for races, he's been featured in Sports Illustrated and USA Today, and he's mingled with big stars.
But meeting one of the America Idol judges was his favorite. "Traveling is fun and stuff, but sometimes, it gets tiring," Karam said.
"I got to meet the judges, I got to meet JLo of course, which she's a very beautiful woman," Karam said with a giggle. He's also dating another Indy Car driver's daughter. Karam is the only of his friends not heading back to college this weekend.
I can't thank all these guys at Furniture Row Racing enough. I knew we had the team and knew we had what it took. Crew chief Cole Pearn got his first career win as a Cup crew chief and received congratulations along pit road from team owner Rick Hendrick, Jimmie Johnson crew chief Chad Knaus and many other notables. COME ON, MAN: On a restart with 22 laps to go, AJ Allmendinger got loose while battling Ryan Newman and scooted up the track, tagging Newman's left rear and sending him spinning.
TOP FIVE: Kevin Harvick finished second, Johnson third, Joey Logano fourth and Kurt Busch fifth. Newman crashed into the wall, spoiling what seemed like a sure top-10 result.
